Significantly reducing blood loss via a peri-articular injection of tranexamic acid during total knee arthroplasty: a retrospective study

چکیده

Abstract Background The administration of an intra-articular injection (IAI) tranexamic acid (TXA) has been demonstrated to be effective in reducing both blood loss and transfusion rate during total knee arthroplasty (TKA); however, few studies have reported the efficiency a peri-articular (PAI) TXA. We studied PAI TXA TKA. Methods Fifty patients undergoing primary simultaneous bilateral TKA were enrolled this retrospective study. right received 1 g (Group I), left IAI II). clinical outcome measures change from Hemovac drains surgical time. Results decrease was significantly lower Group I (460.1 ± 36.79 vs. 576.0 34.01, P < 0.001) than II, no significant difference times observed. present study 16 %. Conclusions A may reduce more efficiently without increased complications such as site infection, poor wound healing, skin necrosis, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis.

A comparative, retrospective study of peri-articular and intra-articular injection of tranexamic acid for the management of postoperative blood loss after total knee arthroplasty

BACKGROUND Intra-articular injection of tranexamic acid (TXA) is known to be effective in controlling blood loss after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). However, this method has some disadvantages, such as TXA leakage due to soft tissue release. Peri-articular injection provides an alternative to intra-articular administration of TXA. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of peri-articular inje...

Peri-articular tranexamic acid injection in total knee arthroplasty: a randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND Intravenous tranexamic acid (IV TXA) is one of the most effective agents in use for reducing blood loss following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) but its safety regarding venous thromboembolic events (VTEs) remains in question. The direct, local application of TXA may reduce systemic toxicity whilst maintaining good or better bleeding control compared to IV TXA. The topical application...

Intra-articular versus Intravenous Tranexamic Acid in Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can cause excessive blood loss requiring allogenic transfusions.Tranexamic acid (TXA) has been increasingly used for lowering blood loss. The present study aimed to comparethe efficacy of intravenous (IV) and intra-articular (IA) administrations of TXA in TKA patients who receive aspirin aschemoprophylaxis and uses no drain post-operat...

Letter to the Editor: Intra-articular injection of tranexamic acid to reduce blood loss after total knee arthroplasty.

PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of intra-articular tranexamic acid (TXA) on blood loss after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). METHODS Medical records of 73 men and 93 women (mean age, 68 years) who underwent primary TKA for osteoarthritis and received intra-articular TXA 1500 mg (n=56) or 3000 mg (n=56) or not at all (n=54) were reviewed. Reduction in haemoglobin levels on days 1 and 2 was measu...

Comparing methods of tranexamic acid administration and blood reinfusion in reducing blood loss during total knee arthroplasty

Background: Perioperative blood loss is associated with total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The tranexamic acid (TXA) is a plasminogen activator inhibitor widely used to prevent bleeding. The Stryker CBC II ConstaVac Blood Conservation System (CBC II, Stryker) can avoid homologous blood. The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of intravenous and topical regimen of TXA in primary TKA, an...
